Trying to Get Pregnant??
Did you know that most people are either lactose intolerant or have a sensitivity or allergy to casein. Lactose is a sugar in dairy products, and casein is a protein. For most people, they don’t realize they have this sensitivity. They may suffer from fatigue, an irritable bowel, or other symptoms (see below for more) but may not have made the connection to dairy. The problem is that repeated exposure to a food allergy can set off a whole-body immune response that shuts down fertility. It can lead to lack of ovulation, low quality eggs and recurrent early miscarriagWhen you eat dairy and you are lactose intolerant your gut becomes inflamed. This increases mucus production in the digestive system. The mucus prevents other nutrients from being absorbed. Excessive mucus production can also occur in the nose, lungs and reproductive system. That is why sniffly nose and asthma like reactions are common in people who are intolerant to dairy. The mucus in the reproductive system can be excessive and can make the sperms journey through the uterus and the fallopian tubes to the egg difficult.
And there is the issue of the synthetic hormones that are given to the cows which become dominate in milk. These synthetic hormones can negatively affect our natural estrogen and testosterone levels.
There are so many non-dairy options to supplement milk, cheese, ice cream butter, sour cream etc. Whether you choose to make your own dairy free products or buy them at your local grocery store or Farmers Market, making the choice to go from cow’s milk dairy to non-dairy could be the best thing you could do for your body, your health and contribution to a successful conception and pregnancy.
Here are a few of my favorite non-dairy products that are just as good if not better than dairy options.
Milk options: almond milk, coconut milk, soy milk, rice milk , hemp milk, cashew milk, macadamia nut milk. There are so many brands to pick from that you are bound to find one that you love. My personal fave is Rice Dream Rice mIlk for is thin, light consistency. Coconut milk for making puddings or baking.
Butter- Again, so many options. Nutiva makes a great coconut oil based butter, Earth Balance which comes Soy free, Vegalene; My personal fave is Earth Balance. It’s like BUTTA!!!
Ice Cream- Did you know that Hagen Daz makes a great coconut milk dairy free ice cream that is insane!? So does Ben and Jerrys (almond milk based). My personal favorites are the Larry and Luna’s Island Vanilla and Dark Chocolate Walnut.
Yogurt: So Delicious coconut milk yogurt is just that, SO Delicious!
Cheese: Daiya, So Delicious (cream cheese also)
Mayo- Hampton Creek -Just Mayo (I cant tell the difference)
To speak of, many of the mainstream companies are making dairy free alternatives just like Ben and Jerrys.
Helman now makes a vegan mayo. Coffee Mate makes a non-dairy creamer. And look what I found in my local store-Reddi Whip now has dairy free whipped cream in the can. YUM!
